Mad Atelier

Mad Atelier

Located in what was once an old east end pub, concept store Mad Atelier is the brainchild of Italian-born architect Chantal Martinelli and her French-born husband Julien Desormeaux.

Drawing on their Mediterranean roots, the couple describe the store as a “fiesta of vintage gems, contemporary finds and modern art” stocking pieces sourced from the galleries of Milan, Paris and Barcelona alongside contemporary furniture, lighting, textiles and decorative accessories. The store itself, with its large windows and polished wooden flooring is a joyful combination of Mediterranean maximalism and a British creative sensibility.

“Hackney is one of the quintessential manifestations of the mix of cultures and reflects the importance of arts and creativity in London... It is also (partly because of this), very progressive in its thinking and very sophisticated when it comes to aesthetics, and therefore open to a colourful new Mediterranean offering such as ours.”

The store is also home to Mad architecture studio headed up by Martinelli, offering customers a complete design service.
